We picked Siren up at a special auction through Centennial Livestock Auction in Fort Collins, CO. While most of the horses as this auction had multiple private bidders, the only other bidder on this skinny, little, sorrel mare was a known kill-buyer. While she was nursing a foal at the auction, we were told that it was not her own, though she appears to have delivered recently since she is actively in milk. We were also told that she was between six and eight years old, however, by her teeth, she appears to be much younger, no more than four.
She came home with us in March of 2022, where we discovered that, while shy and still new to handling, this sweet girl responds readily to human contact and can be haltered and blanketed. Siren came to us severely underweight and with feet in gross need of attention. After enjoying access to plenty of good quality feed and farrier care, she started training in earnest and came around quickly. Ready for adoption after only about 20 rides!
Siren picks up all three gaits and has nice downward transitions on a loose rein. She does not currently have any bells and whistles in her training, but is receptive to learning new things.
No bolt, buck, or rear, but she is still a teenager, and will test boundaries both on the ground and under saddle, where she needs at least an intermediate rider/handler to help her continue to mind her manners and listen to her rider.
Siren loads and stands for the farrier, however, she can be finicky with her feet if not handled consistently, and may require front shoes if ridden on hard or rocky ground to help her stay comfortable and sound.
This pretty little lady is solid sorrel with no white markings. She isn’t fancy, but she sure is cute, in-your-pocket, and ready to go many different directions with her new person!
