Phoenix

Phoenix

Age: 16
Gender: Mare
Breed: Grade
Height: 14.1hh

Adopter Level Needed: Confident Intermediate

Adoption fee: $2,000

Love trails? We’ve got your gal! Phoenix is solid in her basics, including all three gaits, backing, and transitions on a loose rein, and is starting to get a few fancier buttons.

She is riding sound, loads easily, and stands for the farrier. She likes to move out on the

trails but can have difficulty standing still. She would do best not housed in a small stall since she has a tendency to stock up in her hind legs.

Because she is still on the green side, we are looking for an intermediate rider for her to continue to build her confidence with consistency. She can be cinchy and she will sometimes test new riders, for example, with an occasional buck into the lope.

Phoenix tends towards the dominant side. She does well with horses that acknowledge this and give her space when she asks for it, but doesn’t do as well in close company with other dominant mare horses. She does do much better in a paddock with geldings than she does other mares.

Phoenix is our endearing “Crabby Patty” — she may sometimes seem a little cranky on the surface, but she’s a lot of fun to work with and go out on trails with when you build a trusting partnership!

Sedona

Age: 11
Gender: Mare
Breed: Appaloosa
Height: 14.2hh

Adopter Level Needed: Confident Intermediate
Adoption fee: TBD

Sedona is a darling mare who loves pets and attention. Sedona is about to finish up her semester in CSU’s Right Horse program, where she received more consistent work and training in haltering, handling, and groundwork. Easy to handle on the ground and having mastered her groundwork skills, Sedona is moving onto the beginning stages of starting under saddle and should hopefully progress toward riding over the next couple weeks!

While participating in the Right Horse program, Sedona has also been receiving treatment for bilateral Equine Ocular Squamous Cell Carcinoma and we are thrilled to say the treatment has been an overwhelming success in reducing the tumors on each side. Sedona has one more check-up in early May for assessment of her most recent injection.

A lovely mare with an easy temperament, Sedona will be a rewarding partner for her new person!

How to Adopt

1. Complete the Adoption Interest Form below

Fill out and submit an adoption interest form below.

This is the first step in the adoption process.

2. We Get to Know You

We will contact you by phone so that you can ask any questions and we can discuss further about any prior experience with animals, your goals for an adopted animal, and a plan for your animal’s care.
This helps us find the best forever home for our animals.
We will also ask for two references whom we can contact regarding your experience with animals.

3. Meet-and-Greet

Our board of directors evaluates all applicants for adoption. We will schedule a meet-and-greet with the adopter we feel will be the best match for a given animal. This will take place at our Laramie, Wyoming location. A demonstration of the animal and a riding evaluation, if applicable, is typically involved in this step.

4. Completing the Adoption

If you and the animal are compatible, you will receive a contract from Mountain Shadows Equine Revival to fill out and sign. At this time, the full adoption fee is also due.

We will typically provide a Coggins certificate (horses) and will make arrangements for the brand inspector to come out when you pick up your animal (if applicable). Health certificates, if needed, can also be provided upon request for an additional fee.

Not ready to adopt?

That’s okay! We are glad you take the commitment of adopting a horse seriously. The good news is, you can still help!
