Sam is a 14-year-old Palomino, Quarter Horse gelding. Described as skittish and head-shy. So far, this seems to be the case, as he is a little timid but with a confident handler, likewise, he seems to be more confident and well-behaved. it is clear he has lots of potential! Sam has a history of working as a ranch horse for the first ten years of his life.
Unfortunately, his work left him with a tender and possibly lame front left foot. It might be ringbone, and most often shows up when he’s being ridden hard, mostly when trotting. He has been described to us as well broke under saddle and has worked cattle.
We’ve been told he struggles a lot with the farrier, needing to be sedated in the past to have his hooves done, and does not do well with picking up his feet. And, because of his past experiences with sedation for farrier care, he no longer does well with needles and sedation and will need a lot of care, understanding, and patience as we work with him to overcome these fears.
Overall, this beautiful guy is a sweetheart and we look forward to learning more about him!
