Adora
Meet Adora!
Status: In Training
Age: 9
Gender: Mare
Breed: Grade quarter
Height: 14.3hh
Handler experience needed: TBD
We brought Adora home from Centennial Livestock Auction in October of 2021, where organizers said she was “in need of a savior.” It was her second time through the auction in only 4 months. She is from the same group of broodmares who went through the auction with Fennec back in May of 2021. The first time, Adora was heavily pregnant and soon foaled. We believe she was sold to a breeder. While we were told at auction that she was pregnant again and she showed strong signs of being so, we have since learned that she is not carrying.
Adora came to us unhandled, so volunteers continue to work on gaining her trust. Haltering Adora has been a long, slow process, as, whatever her past brought her, she seems to have a deep distrust of human contact.
We are taking training at her pace, however, and, while not yet consistently able to be haltered, she is accepting brief human touch and we have been able to halter Adora on a few occasions! We treasure each small step forward.
