We Are Mountain Shadows Equine Revival

A rescue creating a better future for horses through care, training, and education. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit powered entirely by volunteers and donors, we not only take in and provide care for at-risk horses, but we also educate our volunteers and our supporters and train our horses from untouchable to rideable. That way, we can adopt the horses into loving homes and break the kill-auction and feedlot cycle.

“We could only watch so many horses with so much potential go through a kill auction under an hour from us before we decided to do something about it.

The MSER Board

Sarah Buckhold – MSER’s Founder

Horses have always been a major part of Sarah’s life. After growing up trail riding, she began training her first 3 year old horse when she was 14. Since then she has held many roles including training horses for others, helping manage equine facilities, working as a wrangler at a horse camp, showing horses in horsemanship, pleasure, and trail, and attending Feather River College as a student in their equine ranch training program. Sarah still has Inca, the mare that she trained all those years ago, and uses her to help train the rescue horses from time to time, as h head of the rescues training program.

Randi Teel – President & Volunteer Coordinator

Randi has been a long time Laramie resident and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. She grew up with and around horses and even did some high school rodeo events. She has a passion for rescuing and helping animals and started at a very young age doing just that.

She and her husband adopted two  MSER horses; Fennec and Sister, who are living their best life.

Her goal for MSER is to take abused, mistreated, or volunteer relinquished horses and find their forever loving homes.

She also coordinates and assists with every aspect of the rescue’s operations, including the volunteer program, communications, fundraising, and daily operations.

Shannon Sweeney – Secretary and Social Media

Originally from Massachusetts, Shannon grew up around horses, starting weekly lessons around the age of 10 years old. In addition to her lessons, she participated in Equitation and Pleasure shows at her lesson barn and often spent any spare time helping with chores at the barn and learning more about horse care and wellness.

Altogether, Shannon has 8 years of horse experience and stopped riding around the time she went off to college in 2015. After graduating in 2018 and moving to Laramie in 2020, Shannon realized just how much she missed being around horses and having them in her life. Fortunately for her, it was not too long after this realization that she found MSER and began as a volunteer. Rekindling her lifelong dream of one day having her own horse (or two!) Shannon hopes to learn as much as she can while at MSER to hopefully someday make this dream a reality.

In addition to being a volunteer at MSER, Shannon has accepted the position Secretary on MSER’s Board and looks forward to being more involved at the rescue.

Hunter Wills – Board Member

Originally from Austin, Texas, while Hunter didn’t grow up with horses, he got the “horse bug” after starting riding in college at Colorado State University. Hunter is passionate about animal welfare, medicine, and nutrition, and loves rescues of all species.

His introduction to MSER was from CSU’s Right Horse training class, where he got to train one of MSER’s horses, and started volunteering after completing the program.

Hunter has his own horse (also from MSER) and is always trying to learn more about horses and the equine industry. He currently resides in Fort Collins, Colorado and works in emergency veterinary medicine. He is excited to become more involved with MSER through the board!
